This is the famous Arabian Nights; the story of Scheherazade,; the source of Sinbad and Aladdin; a surprising delightful work. We are all familiar with parts of these stories. However to read this famous translation is something that you have been looking forward to since you first encountered these stories.
Easy read. I would suggest starting at the beginning and work through them. Start and stop at will. Easy to pick up again after a few weeks gao.
An interesting read!
I am a great lover of fantasy and weird tales and have found, over the decades, that the Richard Burton translation of this wonderful book(s) is one of the cornerstones of my library. This Delphi edition is magnificent. It contains all but the most very recent translations of the Nights and includes, in some cases, the extra six volumes of dubious material (that include the story of Aladdin, for example). Now the Burton translation is notoriously sexed up. But if you are of a more prim and proper disposition, the Payne or Lane translations will offer you just as much pleasure. Those who have not read this material should drop all preconceptions and just read the very first volume (of 16 in the Burton translation) and let your mind and spirit soar away with these sparkling stories. This book belongs on your e-reader and the price is preposterously low. This work defines Fantasy and is the first example we have of that genre.
