LuLu's Kitchen: A Taste of the Gulf Coast Good LifeSome cookbooks sit on the shelf and look pretty. A few will be referenced on occasional holidays. Then there is a cookbook like LuLu's Kitchen that will hold a special place of honor at my house. The cover says that it was previously published as Crazy Sista Cooking. I can see why it was republished - so many terrific recipes from the Gulf Coast! All the bases are covered, appetizers, salads, main dishes, desserts and even cocktails. What I like about LuLu's Kitchen is that you'll want to just sit down and read it. Lucy Buffett is a smart and funny lady who shares the story of how she became so successful in the restaurant business while staying true to her southern roots. I've already tried a couple of the recipes and while I'm no chef, the food turned out really well! This is a cookbook that I'll be recommending all the time and giving as gifts for years to come.
If you love seafood, you'll love this cook book! I grew up along the Gulf Coast in Mobile, Alabama and my family and I spend most of our summers along it's shores! Now that I live in Texas, any time I'm homesick for the Emerald Coast, I pick up this book and cook a few of my favorite recipes. This past summer, we visited LuLu's while we were in Destin, Florida and it was well worth the visit! The cook book will not disappoint - you will love her stories intertwined with all those delicious recipes. The instructions are easy to understand and the finished product is as delicious as you can imagine!
Reading this book is like sitting with Lucy Buffett as she chats and cooks and tells stories. I love this cookbook, not just for the yummy recipes but even more for the author's voice. Besides the book is full-color which I love!!
I LOVE this cookbook. It's full of wonderful Gulf Coastal / Southern recipes that are great for real people. None of the crazy specialty techniques or ingredients that often plague today's cookbooks. This is a perfect cookbook for anyone from beginner to grandmas that have been cooking for years. Thank you Lucy for putting together a great cookbook full of wit and wisdom.
We visited Lulu Buffet's restaurant in Gulf Shores, Alabama recently and I loved the food so much I immediately came home and ordered the cookbook. I have read it from cover to cover. It is a wonderful book, full of fun and interesting stories, pictures, hints and recipes. Lulu is as good a cook as her famous brother is a singer!
Everything is worth cooking and I love the little stories she tells in the book, the carb sandwich is awesome and it awesome to eat at her restaurant and even better to have the cookbook.
Bought for the foreward by brother Jimmy....he presents family life with food and great to hear of his father which is him now...pics make me want some food and DRINKs
Love reading the dialogue about life - that is the first reason I bought this book and another for a gift. Then I started reading the recipes- many will easily appeal to home menus of non-Southerners too - mmmm! The philosophy of cooking and the parallel to living life is the joy of owning this book - between chapters of wisdom, try some of the great recipes! This book is a delight- a sturdy large paperback, colorfully illustrated, easy to read and follow, and fun spelled out on every page. Just get it and put a smile on your face!
