I thought this was going to be a straight history, but was pleasantly surprised to find this is a historical narrative - obviously, in historical narratives, some liberty is taken with the subject and supporting people, but the overall gist is historically correct (and this author provides plenty of cites) and I find them easier to read than straight history.
