This is a great book that will challenge you to live up to Biblical standards of holiness. Fr. Larry Richards is a dynamic speaker and the passion comes through in his book as well. I first saw him preach on the EWTN cable network. He is a priest with a parish in Pennsylvania. He is a down-to-earth speaker with homespun wisdom. He is highly-educated, but he has the common touch and has an exceptional ability to communicate with people from all walks of life.Fr. Richards preaches an uncompromising message that is true to the Catholic faith. He doesn't mince words and he challenges men to behave in a Christ-like manner at all times. He encourages prayer and Bible reading. He points out that Godly men should take a servant's role in leadership in their families, the church, and the workplace.Fr. Richards masterfully uses Scripture to back up his points. He gives relevant and compelling personal anecdotes from his years in the ministry. He clearly delineates church teaching on the definition of sin in an era of compromise. He doesn't accept excuses for failure to live up to God's standards. He believes in forgiveness and grace, but he doesn't allow for the enabling of sinful behavior.I am a Protestant and I greatly enjoyed the Catholic book. I am of the belief that our respective faiths have more in common in Christ than differences. I am not in agreement on every doctrinal issue, but I came away very impressed with this man's knowledge of the Bible. He gave sound advice on a number of issues dealing with living a practical life of holiness. I came away challenged to redouble my efforts in living up to the revealed standards in God's word. Fr. Richards especially touched me with his plea to be a man of forgiveness.Fr. Richards is true to the Christian faith. He is a man of God who has touched many lives. He has the gift of wisdom and discernment. He is a master motivator and encourager. He will challenge you to transform your life. He will encourage you to pick yourself off the mat when you fall short of the mark. This is a man with a good moral compass and you won't go wrong by following his advice on matters of practical holiness.

A good book for every man to read especially for those trying to understand their identity in Christ. This is his first book that he's written. His talks from Catholic Light house media are also good, but know that if you've listened to his talks or read his other book "Surrender!" or his men's Bible that he repeats his points but in different ways. I am currently leading a group of guys through this as a book group and they're enjoying it and growing closer to Christ through it. He provides lots of scriptural context for what he's talking about as well as numerous personal stories but in such a way that says "I'm a smart ass but cut the crap" in a way that men can understand it. Now this book is directed at men but he notes at the beginning that women can read this book and understand men more but everything will be written and catered to a man's point of view.

I think that every man any religion needs to get and read this book. It is so simple how to live like Jesus wants us to live and Father Larry Richards show you the way. It is an easy read and he brings it all together in this book. I have just ordered Spiritual Warfare Jesus' Way: How to Conquer Evil Spirits and Live Victoriously, Surrender! The Life Changing Power of Doing God's Will and The Full Armor of God: Defending Your Life From Satan's Schemes. I not a big reader however Fr. Larry keeps you interested and you canâ€™t put the book down. Thanks, Fr. Larry for your calling to be a priest I pray one day our paths will meet.

This is an extremely engaging, thought-provoking, and inspiring read. Steeped in Catholic Orthodoxy, yet quite acceptable to our non-Catholic Christian brothers and sisters, Father Larry is a no nonsense, gloves off kind of guy which is exactly the kind of man our culture needs preaching to it. Yet Father Larry is always loving and gentle, taking care to note how it is only by God's grace that we are able to do anything and that we are to never judge an individual. Many people have already said many excellent things, so I will just add a quick word. It is true that this book should be read by every man, especially men who are struggling, lost, confused, angry, etc. What makes it possible for someone like that to read this book is the fact that the first chapter is sooooo especially good. I would encourage anyone who knows someone that they would like to read this book to buy it for them and tell them to "just read the first chapter." It really is the kind of first chapter that will get someone hooked, inspire them, and make them realize that there is more to this book than just another book about you and God.Part of what makes the book so helpful is the practical advice. Father Larry gives examples of things you should be doing everyday and challenges you to do it. You simply don't feel comfortable reading the book and what he tells you to do without doing it, and that is the kind challenge men need in their lives. This book provides a serious reflection and motivation concerning what it means to be a man of God.

Fr Larry is challenging. He gives you no outs, no opportunity for excuses, no time for self pity , and no way to avoid the calling of a Jesus - if you are a man. These kind of books with the nice questions at the end of each chapter are easy to breeze over. - but this one is different. I feel like I can't deny the calling to be a man anymore. There's no room. The truth of the Gospel is now ing face. Jesus was not some wimpy la la lovey guy who just turned the other cheek. He was a man - on every sense of the word. He was STRONG. That is why he loved. That is why he forgave. That is what we are called to be. Someday I'll meet Fr Larry in eternity. I want to be able to tell him thanks, I lived that message Christ asked you to spread. I died a man.
