I highly recommend this book by Dr. Heidi Roberts, PT, DPT. Years ago, Heidi was a colleague of mine and since then she has started on a journey to improve her own health by being in her words "proactive versus reactive". Now, in this book she details a simple, yet effective, method to assess your own symptoms in order to set reasonable and attainable goals. Most importantly, she teaches you how, through 10 minutes a day, to be proactive in your own health and combat the sedentary lifestyle postures that we all deal with on a daily basis.As a Physical Therapist myself, this has lots of the advice I give my patients who are battling chronic pain and especially those who sit for long periods everyday. This is what our healthcare needs is more self help books like "The Sitting Disease" to allow us to give us the tools to improve our energy, function, flexibility and strength!
With one little ball and a regular wall, the neck & shoulder pain that had plagued me for YEARS -- was gone within a week!Working at a desk, with mouse and keyboard and not getting up and moving around enough had brought on chronic pain with my neck and shoulder that would get short-term relief from my chiropractor, but always come back.Through this books (and author Heidi Roberts) holistic approach, not only did I alleviate the pain almost immediately (with a ball!), I now understand what I was doing to bring it on in the first place. That's HUGE!

I'm so excited to see my results from using these easy tools + techniques! Overcoming back pain seems like an ubiquitous goal here in the States... one that until now seemed unachievable. I love how Heidi breaks it all down in really simple steps and provides the motivation for ACTION. She's a true standing-inspiration :)

I love my job, but there is no doubt about it that I am a desk jockey and sit for long periods of time. This is such a great resource to help counter the painful and unforeseen back issues that these long stints can create.
