So excited to have this book. Especially love the "What you can do tomorrow" section. Gives all new librarians a starting place and a compass to what is important to get students and staff into the library. Along with all the books I am reading for my MLS degree this book also gives common sense advice and techniques that update the space in a library. I am lucky that the librarian before me had this vision- maybe she read this book- and I can just continue to follow in her footsteps to "Hack the School Library!"

I have read others in the "Hacking" series and Hacking School Libraries, by Kristina Holzweiss and Stony Evans does not disappoint! The book is clear and understandable and helps put their "hacks" into perspective by introducing a problem and possible solution. I especially like the "What you can do tomorrow" section and even though I am not a new librarian, I plan to incorporate some of these ideas tomorrow!

Stony Evans is a well-respected LMS in Arkansas and beyond because of his practices in curriculum connections by so many different means. He gets to showcase his teaching strategies and collaborations to a nation-wide audience in this book. Great sections for each ‘hack’ with examples, true stories and how to start the hacks tomorrow. A must read for any new LMS. I would call it a Handbook for beginners or those stepping out if the box!

This would be a great tool for new library media specialists, and it could also be energizing and inspiring to those of us with lots of years under our belt. I highly recommend the accompanying Facebook group, too.

As an avid fan of the hacking series, I was excited to receive an advanced copy of the latest book in this series,Hacking School Libraries, by Kristina Holzweiss and Stony Evans. Their book is written in a clear, easy to read style and the authors' excitement and enthusiasm for the topic is contagious.The hacks are presented in a familiar format. The chapters begin with a problem, followed by the hack, what you can do tomorrow section – a brief section which provides simple and easy ways to make changes. A blueprint for full implementation of the hack follows with a detailed description of implementation ideas. The authors then discuss overcoming pushback from administrators, teachers, parents and students. This section provides a wealth of ideas and ready to use statements to help your project move forward. The Hack in Action section rounds out the chapter with success stories. Many of the hacks require little or no money, which is extremely valuable when educational budgets are being tightened. The authors explain how these hacks help to promote leadership and social skills, foster collaboration, strengthen communication skills and provide a creative outlet for students. Are the authors of this series secretly following my life? Even just the intro. had me in tears of joy as I relate to the authors' return to the school library just as I have done this year. With the year just starting, going 1:1 for the first time, and temporarily having to teach math for 3 periods of my day in addition to my new role as media specialist, today was JUST the day that I needed this inspiration! I devoured every word of Hacking School Libraries. I absolutely LOVE the "What You Can Do Tomorrow" sections. It is going to form my to-do lists for the months and then successive years to come! There is something in here for all experience levels! It would make a great gift for your school's media specialist, too!

The book gives great insights to most aspects of Lithuanian culture, food, language, and more. The section on travel/airline recommendations was especially helpful. I highly recommend this book for anyone to Lithuania for an extended period of time.

An incredibly delightful book written by a young American who married his Lithuanian girlfriend who now teaches at Cornell. His numerous visits with her and their marriage in Lithuania make for a unique insight into the history, customs and culture. He talks about several specific areas and provides invaluable information for anyone traveling to Lithuania. I especially enjoyed the section on the long history of Lithuania. I am a 1st generation Lithuanian whose mother emigrated in 1938 as a 21 year old and was after the war totally separated from her family for 50 years, I found this book most interesting. My dear mother is no longer with us but I would very much like to visit with my siblings and children.

First things first, this is not a conventional travel guide. There are no street-by-street descriptions of towns. Or not much anyway. If you would like that kind of travel guide you should by a traditional paper based guide available in tourist centres in Vilnius or other major Lithuanian cities.This book is more about experiencing and understanding the country. It is full of notes on culture and customs presented in a funny and entertaining style. It also contains sections about history, language, food and other similar areas of interest. (But just take a look at the coverage in the sample.)It also describes some cities like Vilnius and Kaunas in a detailed fashion, giving tips about restaurants, places to visit and sights to see. On the other hand the Kindle edition contains no usable maps, so it is advised that you download and print them from the author's site.One amusing issue that I couldn't help mentioning is that the guide is obviously written from an American perspective and it shows in some cases. Travellers are prepared for things and customs which are quite natural for someone living in Europe and mentioning them sometimes comes of as quite funny. However this does not lessen the value of the guide, it is more of an extra added value for Americans who chose to make one of the Baltic states as their first encounter with Europe.

Excellent guide book. I searched high & low on the web to find info about Lithuania before my second trip and really kept reading the same things over & over. This book really gave all the ins & outs you need to know about the country and the highlights of the various tourist attractions. My first trip 5 years ago was with a tour group and scheduled activities. Most recently, I spent 17 days in Lithuania - part of the time with a tour group, part of the time visiting relatives and several days on my own. This book was very insightful for the "go it alone" part of my journey with very good recommendations and advice for someone traveling alone.

i enjoyed fairly much of this book, though i don't think it would be much help for a person traveling to lithuania. the author's humor certainly describes the frequent absurdities of travelling in a former soviet country, & i greatly enjoyed the humor. it's probably better as a book to read after you've actually lived the beauty, earthiness, historical, lack-of-pretentiousness that in part defines lithuania & it's residents.

What helped me most were this author's insights into the people of Lithuania, the traditional foods, and customs. we spent a glorious ten days there. When the author updates the book, I hope he will include some photos and descriptions which will show how incredibly diverse and beautiful the landscape of this country is. It is a fabulous travel destination, even if you are not Lithuanian by heritage.

We are anticipating a visit to Lithuania this summer and I enjoyed this book very much. We will be on a tour, so we do not need as much information as if doing it on our own, but nevertheless I like to know about the countries we visit. This is told from a real person's viewpoint in a practical and entertaining manner. I think it will prove useful to us, but I know that I have gained a better understanding of the Lithuanian people from this book.

Just got back from Lithuania and discovered this book after, now I want yo go back. The book very nicely describes what to do, how to act, how to get around in this beautiful country. The author married a Lithuanian, he is American and does a great job with details another might have missed.

I highly recommend this book by Dr. Heidi Roberts, PT, DPT. Years ago, Heidi was a colleague of mine and since then she has started on a journey to improve her own health by being in her words "proactive versus reactive". Now, in this book she details a simple, yet effective, method to assess your own symptoms in order to set reasonable and attainable goals. Most importantly, she teaches you how, through 10 minutes a day, to be proactive in your own health and combat the sedentary lifestyle postures that we all deal with on a daily basis.As a Physical Therapist myself, this has lots of the advice I give my patients who are battling chronic pain and especially those who sit for long periods everyday. This is what our healthcare needs is more self help books like "The Sitting Disease" to allow us to give us the tools to improve our energy, function, flexibility and strength!

With one little ball and a regular wall, the neck & shoulder pain that had plagued me for YEARS -- was gone within a week!Working at a desk, with mouse and keyboard and not getting up and moving around enough had brought on chronic pain with my neck and shoulder that would get short-term relief from my chiropractor, but always come back.Through this books (and author Heidi Roberts) holistic approach, not only did I alleviate the pain almost immediately (with a ball!), I now understand what I was doing to bring it on in the first place. That's HUGE!

This book is an excellent guide for anyone suffering from chronic neck and back pain, stress or anxiety as a result of sitting – or standing – at a work station all day. Dr. Roberts provides step-by-step recommendations aimed at helping people address chronic pain on their own terms, and she gives them the tools to do it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel better and live life to the fullest.

Dr. Roberts is an inspiration. This is not just a guide for physical well-being but also a road map to achieving a more holistic happiness. In addition to providing easy exercises and a simple method to eliminate pain from the modern largely-sedentary lifestyle, Dr. Roberts also presents a worldly architecture for clarifying the vision of what we want out of life. Indeed, one cannot work without the other. As I sat reading, I felt inspired to stand!

I'm so excited to see my results from using these easy tools + techniques! Overcoming back pain seems like an ubiquitous goal here in the States... one that until now seemed unachievable. I love how Heidi breaks it all down in really simple steps and provides the motivation for ACTION. She's a true standing-inspiration :)

I've only done a cursory search but this book is missing many very common animals in Arizona. No Harris Hawk, Burrowing Owl, Mearns Quail, Eurasian Collared Dove, etc., etc. I believe there are 7 or 8 different hummingbirds in Arizona, only 2 are listed in this book. All of the pictures in this book are drawings and many of them are almost cartoonish and would be difficult to ID from. Photographs would be much better. I'm sure there's some valuable info in here but it's not a comprehensive guide to the natural world in Arizona by any means.

It's a good addition to my collection, but you should have more complete guides. For example, there is a portion for "poisonous snakes" (should be venomous...) and it only lists a few of the many venomous species in Arizona. Not bad, nice illustrations, but very incomplete and there aren't many details for each animal. Good starter guide for identifying common plants, etc.

I'm always giving this book away to friends or unsuspecting new friends; it is small, concise and a must for newcomers and a must for intelligent nature-lovers (I mean, come on is, there anything different than an INTELLIGENT nature-lover).

Does not have a lot of the wildlife that’s actually in Arizona. Bought when I moved to learn more about the wildlife around and every time I found an animal or bug the book never had it to look up!

This book is designed for those who know little about the flora and fauna of Arizona. It covers the most prominent plants and animals but chances are the odd bird or unusual plant will not be described. On the plus side, it's attractively designed and well-organized.

We are new to Arizona and I wanted a quick guide. It is not very detailed and I am one of those people who always wants more details. But other than that it's a good little guide. I have other books to refer to and when I have time I will do more in-depth researching. I like the fact that it has not only birds but animals and plants.

This has been great for my kids and I, while we learn about Arizona's wildlife together.
