This is a beautiful little book. It is full of wonderful quotes, organized by theme. It is best read slowly - so you can think about the wisdom shared by the authors, Paul and Lizzie Ayoub. It is the perfect coffee table book and gift - suitable for almost all ages. And, knowing that the proceeds benefit St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital makes it even more inspiring.

This is an excellent collection of quotations, organized in themes, and the wide variety of historical and present day representation in the quotes is a nice touch. I enjoy reading quotes, and I would have to rate this high among anything I have read. Very enjoyable and high quality, and of course, the added benefit of St. Jude's Children Hospital benefiting from the profits of this endeavor. Congratulations to the Ayoubs for putting together a wonderful book.

I have taken to reading this inspirational book after a particularly tough day or when I need a little extra oomph to embark on a new adventure...it's a great companion and like a best friend, gives me that extra piece of confidence and support when I need it. I'll be reading this for years. I highly recommend it for anyone that strives to be their best. Great gift as well.

What an amazing collection of quotes... everything from Dr. Seuss to Mike Tyson and almost everything in between. As the title suggests this is clearly a terrific book to share between a father and daughter, but it is also about the best all-in-one collection of insightful quotations that I have ever seen, and is applicable to anyone. Even reading this three minutes a day will change your perspective on life. A terrific read. Thanks to Paul Ayoub for putting this together.

a great collection of quotes, a great story line about the creation of this book, and a great cause in terms of the proceeds of the book. i promise you that you will order one copy for yourself, and then as you read through it, you will begin to think of others you would like to share this book with, and you will end up ordering more copies as gifts. (it is already in backorder for a second printing....). a wonderful, eclectic collection of inspiring quotes from people both famous and everyday, organized in a thoughtful, helpful way.

The hardcover version of this book is beautifully designed by Kate Terrado and makes for a great gift. I helped create this book, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt, yet I am proud of the effort that went into ensuring the quotes were accurate, especially when you can find many misleading attributions on the internet. If you find yourself searching for quotes on occasion, I suggest buying this book and enjoy the thoughtful curation of both Paul and Lizzie.

A really great book. My favorite, by Ghandi - "live your life as if you will die tomorrow, learn as if you will live forever." And because you can't live life without humor: Steven Wright - "if at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving."

I love this book! It's a full meal, chock full of provocative, pithy quotes, most of which I have not seen before. The selection of authors ranges from ancient to thoroughly modern (Ellen DeGeneres and Tom Hiddleston show up), and the sensibility is distinctly timely and relevant. I will keep this book close and return to it often.

As other reviewers have indicated this book is very shallow with no new insights. For even the casual reader of The Wall Street Journal, any national business magazine, or any form of media that reports on Bezos or Amazon, the stories and examples covered in this book would be familiar. This is not an informed insider's account and I did not get the impression that the author had any interaction with the people in the book, including Bezos himself. This is simply a book that has been put together from various common knowledge stories.The writing throughout was overly simplistic and at times downright bad, i.e. from page 149..."Borders Group, Inc., the second largest bookstore chain, is suffering like a CEO with swine flu." I don't even understand the premise of this statement? Companies apparently live and die by the actual health of their top executive? It is a ridiculous analogy, a sophomoric simile that ends up being an insult to the challenges that any of the big box book stores were going through as the industry they had once mastered changed before they could even understand what was happening. At the end of the day, I guarantee the CEO of Borders only wished he had contracted the swine flu...I am sure that is far less painful than filing for bankruptcy and laying off thousands of hard working employees across the country.This book's usefullness is limited to being source material for a high school business class essay and not much more.

I still purchased the hard copy; however, I envisioned Jeff Bezos cursing me out for not buying it through the Kindle!I found the book to be readable and insightful about Jeff Bezos and Amazon. What I found most intriguing about the book was the clear vision and fearlessness in which Jeff Bezos ran the company. He clearly is a risk taker who really knew what he was doing well ahead of other companies. He was also modest enough to say we do not know everything and have to work harder than everyone else to achieve our goals. This did not work out well for Borders, B&N, and some independents.One of my favorite quotes at the beginning of chapter 8 is as follows "We know two percent today. I think Amazon.com may know as much as any other company about e-commerce, but I bet we know two percent of what we will know two years from know. This is the Kitty Hawk era of e-commerce, and most of the interesting stuff has not been invented yet." That is Jeff Bezos from 1998.Another quote which I picture more from Google is "We used to joke that the ideal Amazon site would not show a search box, navigation links, or lists of things to buy. Instead it would just display a giant picture of one book, the next book you want to buy." This quote was from Greg Linden, a former Amazon Programmer.The book naturally has some good insight on the development and growth of the company, but like books on Google and Apple, it tends to fly at a very high level (not a lot of new insight if you are modestly familiar with the companyA). One will not learn how to run a website from reading this book, but some good "tips". I paused to think about some of the key elements Amazon employed (think One Click, continuous improvement, and the Kindle) if I ever ran or had controls in a company.Definitely recommended reading for some big box stores or older book stores that need to carve out a real niche to survive. The reminder and moral of the story is to think about how best to serve your companies needs and challenge the status quo. We are definitely past two percent of our knowledge of e-commerce, but a lot more excitement to come.

Richard Brandt's One Click: Jeff Bezos and the Rise of Amazon (great name) is about the company more than the man. It tracks the rise of Amazon from its genesis (in a garage, albeit converted) to the modern Kindle era. It ends, however--not surprisingly, given its publication date of October 2011--before the introduction of the fourth generation of Kindles (the Touch) and the Kindle Fire. Readers interested in an insightful profile of the man behind the empire will be disappointed, but I wasn't. As far as I'm concerned, Bezos is a modern Prometheus who's stepped away from Olympus for a bit to improve the lot of man. If he's doing something bad in his spare time, I don't want to know about it.It's interesting to re-watch Amazon grow up in Brandt's pages, alongside the use of the internet itself. (I placed my first order on Amazon, for Alison Weir's The War of the Roses [I STILL HAVEN'T READ IT!], on October 25, 1997. I had always thought of myself as an early customer, but my bubble has now burst: Amazon was already pretty far along its path, with its initial public offering of stock already in May of 1997, when my book shipped.) And it's nice to be reminded of the things that have changed along the way: Amazon's old logo, A9 search, zShops. There is a weird gap in the book when the author skips from 2002 to 2007. I also would have liked to see some pictures, maybe screen shots of Amazon's front page over the years, a picture of the original logo so I didn't have to look it up online. Perhaps also a timeline to tie it all together. There are a lot of details--stock prices and expansions into new product lines--that some may find boring, however readable the author's prose. Certainly if the book were about any other company on the planet, including Apple, I would not have had patience for the minutiae. But since it's Amazon....-- Debra Hamel

A lot of good information on the basics. For the hydronics section, it seemed to focus mainly on boilers. Would be nice to see something updated including latest technologies. Also needed more examples and diagrams of systems.

Peter Hook's writing style might not be for everyone, but for brutally honest, self-deprecating, charming (if routinely vulgar) British wit, this is a treasure trove of entertaining reading. Reading this book feels like one of your best mates recounting a story from an epic weekend escapade - only this takes place over years and years. I only knew of the Hacienda based on media accounts; now I feel like I was there. Great book.

Much preferred Hook's other book. This one ... focuses on the defunct club that New Order co-owned. Despite some really cool stories here and there... it didn't grab me like his other book on Joy Division. Hook is a good writer... but this one got a bit tedious. Printing the budgets, and the lists of every appearance... I didn't think it was necessary in the body of the book. Maybe as an appendix... but I didn't enjoy that part of it. Honestly... I haven't finished it yet... don't know if I will. I'm like 75% there, and I've gotten the point. If I do revisit the book (I bought the electronic version on my Kindle), then I'll come back and update this review. Essential buying if you're a fan of NEW ORDER or a HOOK completist... for some background info you get. Wish there had been MORE photos of the club.

One of my my favorite recent music related books. In some sense it reads like a dark comedy. The nutty incidents cant be real but they are. Id say Hook is a great story teller and Im looking forward to reading about Joy Division and New Order. I started with this book because it was my least known subject of the three. Cheers.

this is a great book, but I got to be honest, there are a lot of details which are only for hardcore fans of that era. I love all the details that Peter got into to explain and talk about many things. This is nice reading aside a detailed review of facts, people , attitudes and fashion.The Hacienda plays an important piece of the action of the 80's and 90's Manchester, if you love and want to learn more of this, this is the book.There are a lot of statistics, if you are into that.

Growing up a Peter Hook and New Order fan I fantasized about visiting the Hacienda in my youth. I never did visit the Hacienda but I think I might have to visit Hacienda 251 instead. Either way, Peter Hook has a knack for being an amazing storyteller and I am so glad I finally tracked this book down. I read it from cover to cover in less than a week. If you want to know about Manchester in the 1980's, Acid House and what it was like to be an owner in a world renowned club, then make sure you read this. The gentlemen from The Chemical Brothers even get a nod in these pages. I'm just glad Hooky was able to live through all those faux pas and debaucherous leanings to give us more great music post Hacienda 1.0.Rock on, Hooky!

I loved Peter Hooks' other book (Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division) but this book I found only so-so. Too much filler (schedules, meeting minutes, etc.). Moreover, I found it distressing to constantly read of the mismanagement and financial losses. Same story, different nights. Might mean much more to those who went there.

The book arrived in excellent conditiond and certainly the content is very interesting for Joy Division and "Madchester" fans

Trust me, if you hate laughing while reading, then please stay away from this book. It is hilarious and more than a few times I had to put down my Kindle for fear that my laughing hysterically would cause me to drop it, break it, and make me sad all of the sudden.The only itch is that it could have been longer, but I suppose that's a compliment as well. The 'behind the scenes' stories were hilarious. We all knew that Greg Oden was a great guy, this confirmed it (other than one incident later in life), we perhaps didn't know much about Evan Turner other than his decent NBA career, but he comes off as interesting guy, with a startling sense of perspective at times. Mark Titus is a jokester, someone who was aware of his limitations as a player, and thus moved along accordingly. He was the peanut gallery, and I don't know that a book like this told from Turner's perspective as a 'star' would be as effective.Is this another The Breaks of the Game? Of course not, it never tries to be. It gives you a time (2006-10), a place (Columbus, Ohio for the most part), and setting (hoops, because if Titus had a personal life while he was in Columbus, well he rarely touches on it here). Good enough for me. If you want more of his writing, he's become one of Bill Simmons' crew of loyalists, and has worked with him at Grantland and The Ringer.

Overall, a pretty good book. Titus is definitely a funny guy. I am not an basketball fan, and I'm absolutely not a fan of anything originating at Ohio State University. However I read this book anyway, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I liked the inside details of life in a big-time NCAA basketball program, and I also enjoyed his no holds-barred, I don't care who I offend style of writing. Towards the end, it all got a little old, but the book was almost finished at that point. Overall, this book is worth your time.

Easy read. Sarcastic and humorous look into college sports. Titus pokes fun at the whole college sports culture. Warning - this is full of bathroom humor and includes some R rated stories - not for kids. I'm glad I read this before giving to my young basketball-obsessed middle schooler.

even though i am not an ohio state fan, i can relate to being on the bench as a sub. pretty easy read. i will pass this on to my ohio state fans.

A lighthearted yet true story of life in the competitive world of basketball. It is a human story not necessarily one of solely basketball. Worth a read for anyone interested in how someone deals with the challenges of being an athlete at a big time school. Again, it's a comical look at life and not only about sports.

I'm a huge college basketball fan and Titus offers a great insider's look into the game, the atmosphere, and the team. Some will be turned off by the sophomoric humor but if nothing else it feels honest.It's a quick read without just skimming details. I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys college basketball.

There is so much politics and phoniness in who plays and who doesn't, it should be examined and made fun of. Mark Titus was honest throughout and didn't pull any punches. Very accurate in all respects. Recomend you buy it and read it thoroughly.

This book looks interesting. I wrongly assumed that the pages would have the folding patterns stamped on them. There are instructions but you need to provide your own origami paper.

Make it a gift. They’ll die laughing. Then they will sneak off in the other room with some paper and try folding some of these.

A lot of the models are stretches.. basic origami folds that they just call something else... like a box being called an "ovum". Less risqué and more health class.

really hard to make and no paper included like most but funny

Fun as a gag gift, but there's not actually that many designs in the book. It did make everyone at the party laugh.

Fun times.

Some of these are pretty hard to fold for a beginner, but the pictures are really helpful. Looking forward to learning them without referencing the instructions, so I can pull this out at the bar sometime!

This book has like 2 things that are legit dirty oragami, the rest of it is just regular origami. Unless you are getting this as a gag, don't waste your money.
