Bought it for my daughter to use in 8th grade band. Haven't heard anything negative and it is what the teacher required so must be good.

I use these books to warm up community band that I conduct nearly every rehearsal. The exercises prepare each musician comprehensively... and they are structured in such a way that no section is left bored while others focus on specific skills.The chorales in this book are BEAUTIFUL, and I really enjoy that the warm-ups go beyond the standard flat "band keys". All-together an indespensible book.

This book came to my attention when I visited the middle school band director of one of my clarinet students. It was obvious that the students in this band program were a step ahead of the rest. The warm-ups have a lot to do with this.Intonation, breathing and articulation are immediately addressed by using these exercises. I even purchased a trombone copy for my son and a flute copy for my daughter so we could play together at home. 5 stars for sure!

I have read over 10 books about the holocaust in the last several years. As a religious Jew and a proud member of my Jewish community, I believe it is essential to remember the profound suffering of our immediate ancestors at the hands of the German Reich. Though my parents were spared the atrocities described in this book, they may have well been, had they not migrat d to America before the war. In fact, I went to school with the author of this book and had classes with her mom, the sister-in-law of the survivor (Murray). This book, like many of this genre is hard to read because of the pain and emotion it stirs, to anyone with a conscience and concern about human suffering. However it is a story well told about the power of survival and the human spirit. Highly recommend.

This book is not for the faint at heart. That being said, it is written EXTREMELY well. The writer captivates and grabs at one's heart strings from the start.. I really feel that books like this need to be required in schools across the world, so that we may not forget the horrible atrocities committed during, and leading up to WWII. "THOSE WHO FORGET HISTORY ARE BOUND TO REPEAT IT!"

I have read a lot of books on the Holocaust and this one was very interesting but very short. Not too much detail about his thoughts and feelings. But I imagine he was in shock to see such evil done to innocent people like he saw. Just can't want to think you actually witnessed it and could do nothing. It is so amazing this man survived for so long in the camps. But it stayed with him forever. No way to forget the evil he saw and felt.

I liked the book, but I feel there was alot that was left out. I felt like it was just a brush on the surface. Another 100 pages of going deeper into parts of the story, would have been good for me!

First One In, Last One Out: Auschwitz Survivor 31321 is an exceptional memoir of a Holocaust survivor and was written by Marilyn Shimon. Marilyn wrote this memoir about her Great-Uncle Murray Scheinberg. It is an amazing story that takes us through Pawiak prison in Warsaw, Tarnow prison, Auschwitz/Birkenau, Sachsenhausen, and Dachau from 1939-1945. He was to lose his wealth, his business, his home, his family, and his friends. However, he never gave up knew that the survivors would have to bear witness to the atrocities they witnessed. He was a witness at the Nuremberg trials where he helped bring to justice some of the perpetrators. Marilyn grew up listening to Uncle Murray telling his stories and her Mother wrote a book in the 1960’s; but it was never published. At that time, no one wanted to hear about the Holocaust. Marilyn became a Holocaust educator and took on the role as author of his story. It is well researched and well documented. It is definitely a memoir which should be read and shared.

Excellent story, inspirational, quick read! I enjoyed the background information, the start of the story, often this type of story begins at the concentration camp, but this book is excellent in telling the story before the Holocaust.

I pretty much love anything by Sandra Boynton. My almost 2 year old loves her books too. We've been reading this one for months, and my toddler loves making the animal sounds. I recommend this author.

The text is simple and the pictures are pleasing. When we received the book, I thought it was too simple and that she would get bored. I was wrong! We have read this book HUNDREDS of times. For a while, it was her first and only choice. We read it so many times that I knew it by heart. If she was upset in the car we would start "reading" without the book. She would instantly simmer down and start filling in the animal sounds.Fast forward a year after a move left it buried at the bottom of a box. We came across this gem of our collection. Now almost 3, she says, "My moo book, my moo book! Please read moo moo!" It was left, but not forgotten. What was once a staple in our bedtime routine now brings joy and delight to her one year old sister.If you are looking to add this to your own library, DO IT! You won't regret it! It would also make a great baby shower gift or first birthday present. Some of our other Boynton favorites are Barnyard Dance and the Going to Bed Book.

My toddler and I love Sandra Boynton books. This one was one of our favorite when she was a bit younger. I would read the book but leave it for my child to fill in the blanks and say the animals sounds. At the end of the book, I would point at the different animals and ask her the name of the animal or the animal sound.Even though she's mastered animal noises and names she still picks this book up from time to time. Wonderful simple read that helps teach young kids about animals and their noises.

Another great book from Sandra Boynton. We own almost all of her books and this is one of the best. My daughter is 19-months-old has been obsessed with animals and the sounds they make for months now. This book was perfect for teaching her what different animals say. As always her books are short and sweet. Moo, Baa, La La La does a great job at keeping my daughter engaged in the story.We read this book every night along with The Going To Bed Book.I highly recommend this book. A lot of books go a little too far from the animal they are trying to draw and I worry my child might not make the association.It's short, simple. And strangely cool in the way of coloring. So many books are bright and in your face, this book was not like that. Which made it very pleasant to read to my infant.This is a really good book for very young children who are starting to babble (baba, dada, mama) - To encourage such sounds and put some sounds to common animals.

Where he feels he made mistakes, he admits them freely, and his criticisms of his colleagues is always tempered by an obvious attitude of professionalism. The fact that Grant wrote a memoir of such eloquence while dying from cancer makes it all the more powerful a book.I found this modern library edition especially outstanding. The introductory notes by Caleb Carr and Geoffrey Perret, while brief, are extremely informative. It is interesting to read Grant's perspective and then go and read Thomas' perspective. One can decide who is right. Regardless, Thomas did win and Grant didn't replace him with John A. Logan. Grant also lays out his reasons for allowing Sheridan to relieve Gouverneur K. Warren.Grant proved himself in the Civil War to be a master of internal politics & logistics. His men proved to be expert at the fighting and tactics.Ultimately, this book is really interesting.

Ulysses S. Grant's memoir is a pleasure to read. I had just read a Grant biography (by Jean Edward Smith), and so thought that I might as well read Grant's own writings. They came highly recommended, and I think they measure up to that. I had a very high bar for this book after all the praise I had heard, and I think it pretty much hit it. It doesn't go over that bar, but matches it.Volume 1:Grant has an interesting viewpoint and clearly sets out his life from its beginnings to the end of the Vicksburg campaign in this volume. His exposition of how things went in the Mexican war and his childhood show off Grant's personality well. They are at times a bit self-deprecating, but you always get the sense that Grant is struggling forward.Grant writes in a clear way, and he has a nice way of using understatement and sly humor to give criticism, and gives credit where credit is due. He is always explaining how Sherman or Porter were of utmost importance in the campaign for Vicksburg, for example. If you have a Civil War interest, I would definitely recommend this book. If you don't, then this is more iffy.One minor complaint for the edition I read is that it had no maps. It can be difficult to keep battles straight without good maps, and if you can, look at them while Grant is narrating. It really gives you a much clearer understanding.Volume 2:Grant's memoirs are truly a clear and concise way of learning a great deal about the Civil War. He explains the thought process behind decisions, and gives credit where credit is due. He is a bit hard on George Thomas, but other than that, he is very gracious to all, but will give faint praise to those whom he believes did not perform well. The fact that he did this all while dying of throat cancer make it all the more impressive.If you want to learn more about how the Civil War was fought by one of the most important generals of the time, then this book is an amazing resource. Grant writes clearly, and in a way that is rather engaging even though there are no writing "flourishes". He writes plainly, clearly, and in such a way that you can picture in your mind what is going on. This is no simple feat.I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the US's Civil War.

Mike Evans is the author of The Art of the Beatles (Frederick Muller), The Art of British Rock (Frances Lincoln), Bowie Treasures (Carlton), Elvis: A Celebration (Dorling Kindersley), Woodstock: Three Days that Rocked the World (Sterling), and numerous other titles. For fans of vinyl--it's history, how it's used to make LPs, record playing machines beginning with the earliest ones, examples of art for albums and singles, a synopsis of various important record labels and albums/singles, and other pretty neat information, this book is well worth the relatively low price-especially for a well made hardcover book. Inside the photos and graphics are bright, crisp and clean, the chronological chapters (by decades) are well laid out, and the writing is easy to follow. Even the book cover art of an LP has the feel of "grooves" in it reminiscent of a vinyl record--a nice touch.Beginning with "The Early Years", there's an easy to read timeline of the record and playing machines from 1877 up through 1925 when the first commercially released record came out, plus a look at later turntables. There's a look at how records are pressed using shellac and then vinyl over the years, and the first albums that were released, including several good photos inside pressing plants showing how masters are made and the actual pressing of the vinyl "blob" into an LP. Throughout you'll see various important artists and the records they released that are important, and a section on Alex Steinweiss who's considered the father of album cover art.There's also sections devoted to record labels beginning with the "V" discs and the change from shellac to vinyl. One great photo is a stack of 78 RPM records (about eight feet tall) with a man next to it holding a very short stack of albums that hold the same amount of music on the new LP format. Labels profiled include Decca, Atlantic, Blue Note, Verve, Folkways, Motown, Island, and a couple of others. Album covers from these labels are also included and are nicely reproduced. There's also a section on "Cult 45s" which is pretty interesting, along with the great jam sessions album series put out by Norman Granz which jazz fans will be familiar with. Something else sometimes ignored are spoken word albums which helps balance out the books subject. Nothing is gone into to deeply--just enough to give you an idea of the subject--which for many of us is just enough. There's four pages devoted to "Run Out Grooves" with examples which is pretty cool. There's also a list of record manufacturers, a directory of record shops, and an Index.But that's not that's all that's here, but I think you have an idea of what this book is about. For fans of records and most everything to do with them, this (almost) LP size book (with about 240 pages of text and graphics) is worth adding to your library. This is one of those times when a book is actually worth a bit more than it's price.

The steal of the year for those interested, I mean really interested, in everything about glorious vinyl. Hardcore history about records and all that goes into presenting the final product from materials used to the artwork selection right down to the shrink wrap. Props in a big way to Mr Evans. You can feel it in the pages, this was a labor of love and appreciation. A fine tribute to that piece of art you can hold in your very own hands and anolog it all the way into your soul.

A very inexpensive and well produced addition to the burgeoning list of nostalgic books e.g., Dust and Grooves, Don't Sell at Any price, on records and collecting. This book is nicely done and has a lot of interesting content which is well written. Deduct half a star for the author's obsession with Motown, Steve Wonder and Michael Jackson and another half for neglecting the Salsoul and ZTT labels, AoN and Frankie all of whom did a awful lot for vinyl.

This is a gorgeous, beautifully put together book. It now has pride of place on top of Ella Fitzgerald's piano here at the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation. Gorgeous! And full of lots of interesting history. We highly recommend it - especially to music lovers over 50, like me, who saved every babysitting penny to buy albums. Yes, I'm old. But the music is too and we're both still great!

This book is a must-have for anyone who still collects and plays vinyl LPs. It is a fascinating account into the history and the evolution of sound recording and the intricate process of manufacturing of LP records including the artwork of the covers.

Great book except for a couple pornographic images. Wish I had known that before I bought it. Hence the 4 stars. If it doesn’t bother you, great. If it does, censor it like I did.

Purchased for my father who is an avid vinyl (45) collector and he was super excited to receive. Well made, lots of vivid pictures, and substantial in size! Highly recommend!

Not the most amazing book you’ll find out there that teaches you how to web scrape. I was expecting too much when I purchased this book, and I am disappointed by it. There are several reasons why this book is not the ‘best’ material for a beginner. First, the book was based on a lot of code samples. It was hard for a beginner to understand all these regular expressions, import packages, and different html/css formats just by staring at the code. It was frustrating whenever I saw a page-long section of code being slapped right onto my face with very superficial explanation on implementation details. Then, there is a problem with the topics the book covered. A lot of the things the book mentioned can be found online, and they do a better job at explaining the material than the author does.

It’s a useful book if you have a basic understanding of Python and website construction. I use it mostly as a reference out of the index, but it stays on the top of my pile.
