This book lacks basic detail and illustrations that I expected. A good bit is memoir which is fine but not what I was looking for to interest my grandson. Kids Gone Fishin is much better for getting kids started on fishing.

I went fishing once when I was a kid, but I certainly did not know what I was doing. I caught a couple of fish, which we released, but had trouble getting the hooks out without really damaging the fish (yes, I have guilt over this; the reason for killing a fish would be to eat it). My kids have gone a couple of times with Granddad Nelson in the mountains of California and have all enjoyed success, but they were pretty much told where to stand and what to do and the only thing that mattered in the end was that my son was ticked that his younger sister caught the biggest fish (we have the photo to prove it). So we know virtually nothing about the art of fishing. Paul Amdahl covers a lot of ground quickly and proficiently. The tone is authoritative without condescending into juvenile humor as a way of enticing readers. If Amdahl is talking about equipment then that means reels, rods, and line; not only defining each but explaining when and why you would use each along with their strengths and weaknesses. Amdahl covers a bunch of different types of fish, focusing on where to find them and how to catch them (Just plan on getting your hands dirty).There is also a key philosophy at work throughout "The Barefoot Fisherman." The main thing is that fishing is fun and that while catching fish does have an element of luck to it there are certain things you can do to make it more likely that you will be lucky. What Amdahl offers are not rules (i.e., no guarantees), but rather good, practical advice to help young readers to become young fishermen. At the end of the book he tells his readers to never step on wet rocks, be careful when you are by yourself, and to have fun. By the time neophyte fishermen get to that point they should feel pretty confident about going out and trying to catch some fish. Now, chances are that I am never going to do a whole lot of fishing in the future, mainly because this book does not talk about how to cut through the ice that covers out lakes this time of the year, but someday I might have some grandchildren that could benefit from taking this book down from my shelf. Hey, it could happen.

This is great for a comic book lover. My 8 year old loves to draw his own comics and I thought this would take the hassle out of drawing his own boxes and he could have them all in one place instead of a million sheets of paper all over hisroom. I can't wait to give it to him. Quality paper too!

I really like the number of pages this book gives me. It is a great deal. I also like the format, with the different-sized panels. It lends the story extra action because the bigger panels can give a scene more emphasis, because of the larger size. That way, these panels can be used for the more important scenes. This is a nice little book for kids who are into drawing comics. The only thing to be mindful of is that every page is exactly the same - you don't get any layouts other than the one on the cover, which is a bit repetitive after a while.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for an (almost) 11-year-old boy who has recently become interested in drawing his own comics. He LOVED it! I would highly recommend it. I believe the price is very fair for a great product that will get a lot of use and encourage creativity. :)

The subjects in this book are extremely broad and have a wide range of applications for systems engineering. So, I understand why the text was broad (they don't want to teach one method as if that's the only way of finding the answer), but that makes it so much more difficult to come up with AN answer. Luckily, most topics in this book aren't really all that complicated. But I remember some instances of staring at a table for 10 minutes trying to find out the pattern that was there while re-reading through the unnecessarily wordy text.Not a fun book at all. I can't remember the name of the book at the moment, but I know that most of what I learned from systems engineering from another text with more detailed examples and an Excel-based approach for teaching solutions (even though that is not the ONLY answer).

I rented this book and it came in terrible condition. There were sticky notes still randomly sticking out on certain pages and there were little chunks taken out all over the cover. 2 stars because it still gets the job done though.

From what I can remember, this book is just ok. It teaches something more like statistics and economics, but it does a good job. Nothing spectacular.

Rented it for my daughter in college. She received it, used it, and returned it. No issues whatsoever.

This book is required for several courses in the civil engineering major at Ohio State University. I am a current student and had to "use" this book for one of my classes last quarter. The focus is on the economics of engineering projects, specifically waste water treatment plants/systems. The book explains nothing in very brief sections, yet asks homework questions about topics neither brought up nor explained in any depth/example. I feel as though no serious time or thought went into writing this book and I am extremely disappointed that this book was chosen to be used (possibly because one of the authors is a current and longtime faculty member???). Avoid if you can.

Book provided the needed information to learn the subject. It however had numerous mistakes and our professor wasn't pleased with how things were laid out.

Siegel and Bulkeley have suggestions for helping even very young children remember their dreams and for gaining insight into a child's dreams and nightmares by relating them to the child's waking experiences. They discuss common dream themes and ways to talk with your child about their dreams (don't over analyze, at least in front of them). They also provide an approach to nightmares: "Nightmares are more often like a vaccine than a poison ... a minute dose of a disease that mobilizes our antibodies and makes us more resistant to the virulence of the disease." Siegel and Bulkeley believe that your response can break the cycle of nightmares. Wonderful dreams from real children throughout the book enhance its worth.

I got this book to try to help me address my son's nightmares, I didnt expect this book to be about dream interpretation. Perhaps my fault, but I don't put much stock into dream interpretation and found this book useless.

Parents,teachers and school counselors need this excellent book for work with children's dreams. The authors are parents, counselors, and teachers. They KNOW what they are talking about! Let's increase the numbers of this valuable, experienced-based insightful book on the book shelves of homes and schools.
