About the Author
Frank Zöllner wrote his doctoral thesis on motifs originating from Antiquity in the history of art and architecture of the Medieval and Renaissance periods (1987). He is also the author of a postdoctoral treatise on motion and expression in the art of Leonardo da Vinci, published in 2010. He has published numerous works on Renaissance art and art theory, and on 20th-century art. Since 1996 he has been Professor of Medieval and Modern Art at the University of Leipzig. For TASCHEN he has authored the XL monographs on Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

I don't want to write too much in this review because I want the you enjoy the book and you will get surprised for sure when you open the parcel.The book is XL, look at my pictures.The book is beautiful and I believe that my short video doesn;t need any other comment.Michelangelo "The Divine"
As a figure artist, this book emphasizes story over substance.Any "Complete Works" book I have, and most Taschen books in my collection, do 1-3 images per page and leave the text for a small section at a time. This collection is dwarfed by a bunch of writing and the pictures I'm interested in studying are too small, even in the XL size. The big pages are for famous works that in bigger scale don't have much to offer in a technical sense. This artist is known for his body language and beauty of figure, so I would think that would be the point.Highly disappointed. Wanted something inspiring to reference while I'm making poses.
This is the third art history book written (in whole or part) by Frank Zollner that I own, and as with the others it is insightful, easy for the layman to understand and full to bursting with brilliant reproductions. See the Sistine chapel ceiling and Last Judgement fresco up close, a way that only restorers and the man himself have been able to see it until now. My only issue is that the main text doesn't always pay attention to some lesser known works. For example, I just saw the Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in New York- this exhibit contained three of his sculptures: Apollo, Cupid, and the Bust of Brutus. While all three of these sculptures are mentioned and reproduced in the Catalog of Sculptures, the main text does not really address any of them. It is also of note that this book does not include another piece at the Divine Draftsman exhibit, The Torment of Saint Anthony, Michelangelo's earliest known painting, dating to when the artist was only 13 years of age.
I wish I could give more stars, because 5 just doesn't seem to be enough. This book is huge, heavy, and amazing. I really can't believe how great it is. It is just stunningly beautiful, and worth every cent and then some. A must have.
AMAZING BOOK for my Coffee Table. Quality and Excellent pictures. Heavyweight. Already received many compliments. I purchased another book by this same Author. I'll probably buy a third one too.
Amazing edition of a great artist. The book is very high quality, much more dense and heavily populated with his paintings, sculptures and drawings than expected. Interesting and accurate text accompanies the larger sections, as well as complete catalogs in the back with smaller pictures of each and every work. Highly recommended, especially at this bargain price.
This is a coffee table book. Very large and heavy, I place a pillow in my lap when I read it. The pages are rich in color and are very luxurious, thicker than usual which lends a feeling that one gets a very good value for the purchase price. I have not gotten very far into the reading as yet but what I have accomplished I do appreciate the clear organization of the material. This is only a first impression and I look forward to giving the final review when I finish the reading.
Exceptionally high quality, truly a wonderful book at a very reasonable price. I wish the print was little better suited to my tired old eyes but that's a small quibble.
